Below you will find some other sites, places, or organisations we think might be of interest to you. Note that none have any direct connection with Winchester Young Carers.

Parent.Voice provides information and support for the parents and carers of disabled children in Hampshire, helping you to engage, debate and inform local services for your disabled child, meet other parents, and contact local groups to share ideas and support one another.

RADAR is the UK's largest disability campaigning organisation, with a membership of over 900 disability organisations and individual campaigners.

Contact a Family have a website called Making Contact which enables parents of diabled children to correspond with others in a similar situation. You can also make contact with those who live near you. Message boards allow real-time discussion with others. If you are on Facebook you might want to have a look at CaF's page there as well.

Freecycle is a 'grassroots' movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Freecycle matches people who have things to give away with people who can use them. You can join the Winchester group here. Note that this is a popular group, with over 4700 members, but you can choose whether to receive all the messages or view them online as and when.

Boots have launched Caring Made Easier, a site specifically tailored for carers, with information and advice for both you and the person you care for. You can also request a Boots pharmacist to phone you to provide advice.

The Multisports Club of Eastleigh caters for young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities and physical disabilities, ages 11 to 25. Contact Susan Perrin for more details on 07814 135565.

Go to the cinema for free with the CEA Card, which entitles the holder to one free ticket per visit for the person accompanying them. The holder must be in receipt of DLA or AA or be registered blind. The card cost £5.50 and is
  • valid for 3 years
  • accepted in 90% of cinemas, including Odeon, Cineworld, and Vue
  • valid for any age (where BBFC certification permits) and any screening

The Harbour Lights Picture House is running autism-friendly screenings of films. Low lights are left on during the film and the volume level is reduced. People can move around, make noise, or take a break during the film. Tickets are £2.50 for everyone.

The Disabled Persons Railcard qualifies the bearer to one-third off the price of tickets nationwide. An accompanying adult gets the same discount too. Click the link for more information and how to apply.

The Family Trust Fund provides grants for holidays and household goods where a family includes a disabled or seriously ill young person aged 18 or under.
